Outgrow Pain™
As young children learn to walk, they outgrow crawling. You will learn to use FlexAware to relieve "outgrow" back pain, asthma, arthritis, knee and hip joint pain, and other problem conditions.

Breathing for Life™
You will learn how to breathe more freely, easily, and effectively. FlexAware breathing increases the strength, length, resilience, and coordination of all the muscles that are involved in breathing, not just the diaphragm. That makes it uniquely beneficial for people with breathing difficulties, including asthma, COPD, and emphysema. Breathing effectively is vital for recovering from stress and improving emotional and psychological health.

Enhance Your Yoga with FlexAware*
Take your yoga to the next level. More skill. More comfort. More fun. Less strain and fewer injuries, with faster recovery from any difficulties that do occur. FlexAware is based on the innate, organic, spontaneous yoga of healthy young children.

*Great for people who do not practice yoga, too, for general fitness and enhanced skills at golf, tennis, running, swimming, dance, and more.

Better Breathing with FlexAware Somatic Education and Exercise
This eight-hour workshop, though suitable for everyone, is designed mostly for massage therapists, bodyworkers, yoga teachers, Feldenkrais® practitioners, PTs, chiropractors, and other health professionals. We are applying for approval to offer 8 CE hours from NCBTMB.

For Personal Growth and Teacher Education
Every student in the Spring 2011 program gave it rave reviews. Some of their comments:

“I flew in from England for each of the four weekends, then home again to teach the next day. It was more than worth the time and trouble and expense. I learned more in this course than I had in the past ten years of other trainings and continuing education. Inspiring! Thrilling!”

“This program did so much for me personally -- physically, emotionally, and intellectually -- that I recommend it to everyone for self-care and personal growth, even if they have no intention of becoming a FlexAware teacher.”

“Steven is an inspiring course leader. I feel empowered in my teaching and knowledge.”

“It has transformed all of my teaching. It enables me to break down Pilates moves and switch with ease between body awareness and technique improvement. Every fitness instructor ought to become a FlexAware teacher as well.”

“I experienced significant personal benefits at the same time. My bodyshape is changing and the way I move myself is changing. I am sure my lung capacity has improved.”

FlexAware is more than exercise. It’s a new approach to movement education, and I am continually impressed by the insights it inspires in the people I teach.”

“A great teacher training program. Steven is an excellent teacher, patient and thoughtful, respectful and caring, and extremely knowledgeable.”

“I highly recommend the FlexAware certification. As a doctor, I find the neuroscience and biotensegrity aspects very satisfying; this is a solidly grounded approach to self-healing. I consider FlexAware to be my most effective way of sparking interest in self-directed care.”

“The training was logical, easy to follow, and Steve gave individual support to each of the students in the program. The program gave me the skills to adapt FlexAware in ways that would be effective for any individual or group.”

“During the two months of training I became stronger and much more flexible. Thank you, Steve, for this great experience! Thank you for bringing FlexAware to the world!”

*Certification requires practical and written evaluations, and is valid for two years. This is to protect the integrity of the work, to best serve teachers, students, and the general public. We want everyone to be sure that people who say they are teaching FlexAware really are, and are up-to-date with new practices and research results. The recertification process will be low-cost and designed with some flexibility so it is an opportunity and not an obstacle or burden.

Individual Sessions with Steven Shafarman

Steven Shafarman works with a few select students in Washington DC.

He also consults with people remotely using Skype.

Students typically report significant benefits starting with the first session. Each session combines FlexAware with the subtle skills Steven developed as an assistant to Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and through more than 25 years experience as a successful Feldenkrais® Method practitioner. You will learn specific, easy, remarkably effective practices you can use to continue improving on your own, in the way you breathe, sit, and walk.
